As an automotive service technician, you will be expected to perform maintenance and repair on vehicles. When a customer comes in, you will receive a repair order from the dispatcher, and you will need to take the vehicle back to the stall area. You will then need to perform the work outlined in the repair order, whether it is straightforward or includes diagnosing the cause of a malfunction. As you perform service, you must document your work, keep your work area and the vehicle clean, and follow all dealership and factory standards, as well as following federal, state, and local laws.
You will be required to communicate with others well. If there is any change to the service you are performing (for example, if the requested service will take longer than promised or extra maintenance is required), you will need to communicate with the service advisor. If you need any parts or fluids in the service you are performing, you must communicate with the parts department. In addition, if the customer requests it or if you are performing warranty work, you will need to tag and save old parts.
